  • Native data format is .T02; can stream RT27, BINEX, RTCM and other real-time standard formats.

  • External USB drive support

  • The maximum number of sessions available depends on the logging rate of the enabled sessions. The sum, in Hz, of all the logging rates of the enabled sessions cannot exceed ~60 Hz.

Firmware and Configuration

  • Trimble NetR9 Receiver - Current Firmware Version details and downloads (5.42, 9/2019)
  • UNAVCO standard configuration files for the NetR9 (updated for each firmware version)
  • Where available, UNAVCO recommends using an external LVD between the receiver and a battery power source to ensure that the receiver always powers up. Please see the receiver configuration  details page when using an LVD.
  • If an external LVD is not available for use at a remote continuous site, then UNAVCO recommends enabling Shutdown Override in the Receiver Configuration -> General menu. Shutdown Override prevents the unit from shutting down when an external voltage above the Power On Voltage is present.  Caution : enabling Shutdown Override will override Data Logging/Power Saving settings, Application File Power-Up Timer settings, as well as the front panel power button.
  • NetR9 Owners should  visit this page  for a critical information regarding use of versions 4.41, 4.42 and 4.43.

The Knowledge Base web page can no longer print or "print to PDF" properly in either OS X Safari or Chrome (both latest versions). In Safari, the left-hand side navigation panel partially overwrites the text of the article and the article itself is not scaled properly so that the right hand side is chopped off. In Chrome, only the article scaling is wrong (the navigation panel is displayed at the top of the article by itself). I would rather the new web site print pages the way the previous web site did (without the navigation panel and with proper scaling). Or, better, provide a "Print" button at the top of the article (along with Facebook, Twitter and other things I never use), that will format the article for printing as a PDF. At the moment I cannot properly save or even print copies of the articles for off-line viewing for use in the field! Or maybe there is a way to get copies of articles that I‘m not aware of? Thanks in advance.

Larry, Configuration of a BGAN terminal will depend on the make and model you use - refer to the manual for instructions on forwarding ports to the receiver if the BGAN uses a NAT’ed LAN configuration, or in some cases the public IP will pass directly through to the receiver. It is critical that you have your BGAN account configured with a publicly accessible static IP address.

I have a very remote location, where my cell modem can’t get a consistent signal. Is there any documentation on using M2M BGAN systems with NetR9s for networking the device? Thanks

The Netr9 could not detect any satellites what could be the possible cause of this problem? Also the battery turn to X even the battery is fully charged. Thanks!

Re comment #8 - the IGS file naming convention is not available in the current versions of NetR9 firmware. THe files must be renamed once they have been transferred.
Comment by Liam Curran on Sun, May 19th, 2013 at 7:32 AM
Is there a way to setup the Logging Session & FTP Push functionality to comply with the IGS/RINEX 2.11 Standard naming convetions for the Daily, Hourly & Highrate files see in section 4 here: ftp://igs.org/pub/data/format/rinex211.txt
Comment by Alexander Holsteinson on Mon, Apr 22nd, 2013 at 3:11 PM
Why does the resulting daily RINEX session file for the 15s GNSS data plus the Vaisala WTX520 MET sensor data at 15s is so large (about 18mb)?

Is there any way for the NetR9 to generate the Multipath plot and corrections that were generated by GPSBase? If not it would be great to have it built into the NetR9 WebGUI page of next firmware release
Comment by Alexander Holsteinson on Mon, Apr 22nd, 2013 at 3:04 PM
It would be very useful to have in the next firmware for the NetR9 an improved MET sensor webpage added to the WebGUI with weather parameter charts and tables as well as MET data sessions by date download in MS EXCEL format.

The external USB drive limit of 8 Gb at least with firmware 4.70 should not be exceeded or the NetR9 will freeze

I have set up a NetR9 and somehow set a username and password, and now cannot access the NetR9 through my browser. When i clicked on Security to enable, it popped up with a prompt for user name and password, i cancelled this window, and now it won’t let me see anything, just keeps prompting for username and password. Is there a default, or can I reset this somehow?

Hi Rebecca, A few suggestions: 1) Install the latest firmware version for the NetR9 (4.62 as of 10/31/2012) 2) Use a reliable external Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD). We have found the NetR9 LVD logic to be unreliable and dependent on hardware batch numbers. During testing, the sudden voltage rise from an external LVD has always succeeded in powering up the NetR9. If you find a case where a sudden rise in voltage fails to power up the receiver, please let us know. 3) if you can’t implement an external LVD, then you can try enabling ’Shutdown Override’ in Configuration->General. This feature is new to firmware version 4.62. Caution: we have only conducted limited testing of this feature. Before sending out a receiver to a remote location, I’d suggest testing it with your intending application. If you have any questions, please email me at berglund @ unavco.org

What should we do with a netR9 that does not power back up even after a battery has been fully recharged by a charger or solar panel? We’ve played around with lots of power settings (especially the powerup voltage) to no avail.
Comment by Freddy B. on Wed, Oct 10th, 2012 at 4:54 PM
FIrmware 4.62 is currently in the latter stages of extensive testing and we expect to be recommending its use shortly.

Fred, I’m too interested by the DC power cable alike the NetRS unit and/or the know how to make something safe, water proof and robust.... idealy I want my receiver to operate on 110/220 v AC, then on a 12v DC backup connected to a large external battery that guaranties at least a week of normal operation, and then only a second backup with the internal battery; and of course I don’t like the spagetti thing with all sorts of cables mixed in a pandora box, no one dares to open once it has been set up... thanks

Is there a way to change the naming convention for files written by the UNAVCO default data logging sessions? I see that you can use the system name as an option when setting up a new logging stream, but I want to modify only this setting rather than start from scratch.
Comment by Ian Howat on Wed, Aug 31st, 2011 at 2:25 PM
any update on the DC power cable issue?
Comment by Frederick Blume on Fri, Jan 7th, 2011 at 11:39 PM
Trimble has promised to start providing these soon, but in the meantime the simplest way is to snip the end of the wire coming out of the AC adaptor and use those leads and plug as your DC-in. Such wires and plugs can also be purchased at Radio Shacks and such. However our equipment technician has come up with a more elegant solution making use of the blue PPS box that comes with the receiver. He will post a "how-to" soon.

The NetR9 receiver does not seem to come with a DC power, LEMO 7-pin, power cable like the NetRS units. Is there a way to order or make one?
