Firmware Status |
The NetRS system is based on a Linux operating system running a set of programs, all of which is collectively refered to as the Firmware. As enhancements are made to the firmware, new versions are released that can be uploaded and installed into your NetRS. Each new version is identified by a three digit version number. In general, this will be formatted something like 1.2-3 or 1.23. Also associated with each release is a release date.
A new firmware version will be packaged into a Firmware File, which contains everything needed to install the new firmware. These will have names similar to:
NetRS firmware is managed from the browser interface through the Firmware item on the main menu. The Firmware Status page shows the current firmware state, and allows for management of firmware files. At the top of the page you can view the current firmware version and date, the NetRS Serial Number, and your current Firmware Warranty Date.
When a new version of firmware becomes available, you can upload and install it into your NetRS. A firmware file must first be obtained from the Trimble Support website and transfered to your local computer. From there, the file must be uploaded into your NetRS. This can be done using the Firmware Upload page, or by using FTP.
Multiple firmware files can reside in the NetRS at the same time. You could, for example, keep the current version and the previous version readily available. However, the uploaded files are saved in the same memory space as logged data files, so keeping old files uses up space that might be needed for data logging. Firmware files will NOT be automatically deleted. They must be manually managed. The Firmware Status page provides the information and controls for doing this. It provides a table of the firmware files that are currently available for installation.
